What are Rotary Lifts?

Rotary lifts are devices used to raise vehicles off the ground to allow for repairs. These lifts are capable of lifting standard cars. Heavy-duty rotary lifts are also used to raise huge commercial buses and trucks for servicing.

Rotary Lifts

Rotary lifts are of many different types; one type is the low-rise scissor lift. This lift is the most lightweight model and is intended for the elevation of passenger cars and light trucks. It has a rated capacity of ten thousand pounds.

There are also two-post hoist models for trucks and cars. These types of rotary lifts use two opposing columns made of steel to raise a vehicle utilizing hydraulics.

A rotary lift consists of hydraulic cylinders that are synchronized using cables. This synchronization prevents one side of the lift from rising faster than the other. It also serves to keep the vehicle level during lifting.

Rotary Lift Installation

Rotary lifts are available in various configurations, including two-post lifts, small mid-rise lifts, and heavy-duty four-post truck lifts. The installation of each lift has a set of requirements that must be met during its installation.

Due to the heavy loads raised by rotary lifts, the installation requirements are an important factor in maintaining the safety of the operators. Rotary lifts must be installed on a quality concrete floor without cracks and defects.

They must be installed with a minimum anchor depth of 3 ¼ inches (8.255 cm). The overall thickness of the concrete must be at least 4 ¼ inches (10.795 cm) for two-post lifts. For heavy-duty four-post lifts, it must be 5 inches (12.7 cm).

The concrete used must be rated to withstand 3,000 pounds (1360 kg) per square inch. In addition, the concrete anchors of rotary lifts must be torqued to 150 foot-pounds.

Types of Rotary Lifts

The types of rotary lifts include:

2 Post Rotary Lifts

The two-post lift is the most common option for rotary lifts. Two-thirds of the rotary lifts that are purchased are two-posts. Their popularity comes from the fact that they don’t use too much space. When dealing with these types of lifts, it’s easier to access the undercarriage and the wheels of the vehicle because they hang free.

2 Post Rotary Lift

There are two varieties two-post lifts come in: symmetrical and asymmetrical. Therefore, when choosing, it is important to do research first to know the right type for a specific application.

4 Post Rotary Lifts

These types of lifts are incredibly versatile, and they are capable of handling all sorts of vans, cars, and trucks. They consist of roller ramps for the ease of mounting vehicles. They also exhibit higher rise heights to allow free movement under the vehicle.

4 Post Rotary Lift

They also consist of a heavy-duty locking system in order to keep everything in place while completing the work.

Parallelogram Lifts

These types of rotary lifts are more likely to be chosen by facilities and technicians. They do not have any columns that help to increase productivity. Facilities can choose from 4-leg, 6-leg, or even 8-leg lifts, depending on the vehicle types on which are being worked.

Parallelogram Rotary Lift

Parallelogram lifts also consist of mechanical locks, surface mounts, and clear foot designs for additional convenience.

Scissor Lifts

Scissors are also called Y-lifts. They are often utilized in alignment jobs. They may also be used in factories for helping with assembly lines or transferring heavy cargo. They consist of an extra-large runway; therefore, they use up more space, offering more leeway for movement under the vehicle.

Mobile Lifts

These types of rotary lifts come in 4 or 6 columns. They are operated using a battery, so they are free to move around different spots. Since they can move freely around an industrial facility, they are a great way of improving business productivity.

They also consist of adjustable wheel forks for the accommodation of different vehicles of different sizes. Therefore they can be used with a wide range of cars and vehicles.

Applications and Benefits of Rotary Lifts
